Tax Training For CTA

I'm a freelance tax tutor teaching all the CTA papers (mainly for Tolley and Kaplan) and I have for many years now offered private tuition on a one to one basis.

I still do that but in order to try and reach more students and also to reduce the cost to you, I am now offering Zoom sessions on three Advanced Technical papers - Owner Managed Businesses (OMB), Individuals (IND) and Larger Companies and Groups (LCG). These sessions, which can be booked in blocks of 5, running weekly from early February 2026, will cover tricky technical areas for the particular paper.

Note that I'm not intending to supplant or replace the courses offered by Tolley, Kaplan, etc. I see what I offer as a ‘top up’ resource to help on difficult areas. Whether you are due to attend an online or classroom course, or are doing the exams ‘distance learning’ yourself just using the study manuals, I hope what I have to offer will be of interest and be helpful to you .

The sessions will be run live and so you have the opportunity to ask me questions as well. For any session booked, afterwards you will receive a copy of the recording and also a copy of any notes I put up on screen.

Most of what I do as a private tutor is in relation to the APS (Application and Professional Skills) paper. The key challenge there is understanding what this paper is all about, the techniques required as well as putting them into practice in an exam. Most students who fail do so because they haven’t got the right technique for the APS paper.

So, for that paper, I’m offering a package of 2 Zoom sessions for each of APS OMB, APS IND and APS LCG. The first session will cover what the paper is about and provide practical tips and techniques to help you ‘open up’ the question. In the second session I will take you through a past exam question showing you how these tips and techniques can be put into practice. For OMB & IND, these two sessions will run at the weekends in February 2026 - one on the Saturday and one on the Sunday. Note both sessions for the LCG one are on a Sunday in February. As with my Advanced Technical sessions, a copy of the recording and notes used will be provided to participants afterwards.
